A DEVELOPER has come under fire from councillors for attempting to avoid an environmental study on land earmarked for a supermarket.
Petersfield Town Council has told Morbaine Ltd that it strongly supports the need for an environmental impact assessment on Frenchmans Road.
Morbaine wants to build a supermarket on the JB Corrie site once the fencing specialist has relocated to a new factory.
They insist the assessment isn't necessary as they believe the development will not have any significant effects on the environment.
But their claim has rankled with councillors and opponents, who have accused Morbaine of trying to save time and money.
