MOVES towards the planned re-development of East Street will take a step forward at Church House next Friday (November 16) when Waverley council starts its search for developers.

Waverley will launch its East Street Development Brief - a guide for developers - and will start advertising for developers to put forward their "expressions of interest" for the re-development.

The guide has been repeatedly described as "planning rather than developer-led", meaning the emphasis is on preserving Farnham's character and not being pressurised by developers.

The brief is the result of consultation with he public, landowners and shops and Farnham and Surrey councils.

Captain Peter Burden, chairman of Waverley's Special Interest Group which is leading the project, said: "The process of selecting the right development partner is paramount to the success of the whole project.

"Waverley is looking for developers who have the substance and experience to deliver the size and quality of project that will become the new East Street."

Captain Burden added that once Waverley has received all the expressions of interest from developers, they will be short-listed, and "those with the necessary capabilities for the project will be invited to submit a draft scheme."
