A NEW development in Bordon has been named as one of the best-planned in the UK.
The new homes at Louisburg Barracks have been shortlisted for a Royal Town Planning Institute award in the category “excellence in planning to deliver housing”. The awards showcase the “best in placemaking across the UK”.
Initial proposals for the new development and then outline planning were developed by the Homes and Communities Agency and its master planner, Aecom.
The Homes and Communities Agency then selected Barratt Developments to deliver the new homes due to its “high-quality proposals”.
Barratt Developments is building 500 homes at Louisburg Barracks in, what it calls, the Heritage Quarter and New Quarter areas.
Both areas feature two, three and four-bedroom homes, many of which are available to buy through the Government Help to Buy Scheme. Tim Hill, managing director of Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes in the region, said: “It’s an honour to be delivering a site which is being recognised for its best practice. We are pleased to be working harmoniously alongside agencies, such as the Homes and Communities Agency, to deliver transformative new communities to swift timeframes.”
Richard Green, director at Aecom, added: “Partnership and delivery have been the two prominent determining factors guiding the Homes and Communities Agency’s ongoing regeneration of Louisburg Barracks. Aecom is delighted to have been involved from the outset and sees it as vital in terms of the economic benefits for the town and as contribution to meeting the UK Government’s housing-delivery targets.”
The winners of the Excellence in Planning Awards were due to be revealed in London today (Thursday).
