A DIESEL spillage in the centre of Liphook last Thursday caused chaos for motorists.

Bordon and Grayshott firefighters spent most of the morning hosing down the road after a five-gallon drum of diesel on a pick-up truck spilled part of its contents.

The accident happened at 8-57 am on one of the mini-roundabouts in The Square.

All the major roads into and out of Liphook were affected and there were long delays for motorists.

Bordon firefighter John Tipper said: ÒThe northbound carriageway was opened up soon afterwards but the southbound carriageway was closed until later on in the morning while police and firefighters made sure the road was safe for motorists.Ó

Liphook fire service did not attend the scene because its firefighters were already at a fire in Petersfield town centre.
