A?SPOKESMAN for the Guide Dogs charity has thanked the people of Petersfield for “digging deep” in their pockets and helping raise more than £690 for the cause.

In the UK today, almost two million people are living with sight loss and of those around 18,000 rarely leave their homes alone, many suffer from depression and struggle with feelings of isolation.

Guide Dogs are there to help solve this problem by providing dogs that enable the blind and partially sighted to lead normal lives again.

Tish Hardy, treasurer of the Liphook branch, which covers Petersfield, said: “Without the kind donations of the general public this would not be possible as Guide Dogs receives no Government or EU aid.

“Our volunteer collectors and their dogs and Guide Dogs worked happily on a beautiful summers day to help raise funds for this very worthy cause.

“So many thanks to the people of Petersfield and all our volunteers.”
