TEARS of disbelief have greeted the bombshell news that East Hampshire's maternity unit is to close this weekend for more than three months.
Stressed pregnant mums from Petersfield and as far afield as Liphook, Hindhead and Beacon Hill, near Haslemere, have claimed they were left with nowhere to go to have their babies and some given just days to find an alternative hospital before they were due to give birth.
The shock news that the Grange Birth Centre, at Petersfield Hospital, in Swan Street, is to close until January next year has been blamed on a baby boom in the Portsmouth area.
