COUNCIL ticket wardens dished out not one, but two parking fines for an 83-year-old lady following a fall that landed her in hospital.

The pensioner - whose family have asked to keep her identity anonymous - suffered a fall in Castle Street, injuring herself quite badly.

She was taken to Frimley Park Hospital by ambulance and so had to leave her car parked in the Lower Hart car park outside Waitrose.

Her son left a note on the dashboard explaining what had happened and that the vehicle would be moved as soon as possible.

The note read: “The owner of this car had a fall and was taken to hospital by ambulance this afternoon. We will remove the car ASAP”, followed by a contact number.

But when her son came to collect the car a few days later, he was shocked to find two penalty charge notices on the windscreen, which he has now appealed.

A spokesperson for Waverley Borough Council said: “Our car parking service has now received a challenge to the ticket and will respond to the customer directly.

“Civil enforcement officers work within the general regulations, they are not equipped or authorised to respond to notes left in vehicles.

“However guidance on how to challenge a fine is printed on every ticket and it is for the car parking team at the council offices to look at the evidence and decide when appropriate to cancel the fines.”

The son has since told the Herald that his mum is doing well following her fall and that she is out of hospital.
