DISCUSSIONS are continuing with Waverley Borough Council on the problem of the commercial waste bins in key passageways ib Farnham and the on-going problem of dog fouling.
The options of pursuing existing legislative powers and the possibility of using Public Space Protection Orders has been welcomed by Farnham Town Council’s, strategy and finance working group, as it was keen to see action taken to resolve the problems being experienced.
Council leader John Ward said: “I’m passionate about few things but getting rid of these bins on the way into town is a passion I have and I think I share with many.
“Also dog fouling in our cemeteries and on our streets seems to be getting worse. We’ve looked at a number of ways trying to deal with this, we’ve looked at dog controls and we’ve now moved on to looking at by-laws.
“We then moved on to Public Space Protection Orders which is something that died in October 2013 and probably actually widely used for a number of things, and in particular dogs running around doing ‘nasties’ and people putting bins and general rubbish where they shouldn’t.
“And we are now strangely enough putting in another piece of legislation which is Section 47 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. We are talking to Waverley Borough Council as the principle authority and the idea clearly is too clean up our town and keep it clean. To the best of my knowledge this is progressing well, and we hope to have something done in the near future.”
In other news, councillor Carole Cockburn advised that at the recent Farnham Town Centre Conservation Area (FCAMP) meeting a number of enhancements had been discussed including the access to Central car park adjacent to Robert Dyas and the replacement of the railings adjacent to the river between Farnham Maltings and the new Churchill Development off Longbridge.
