DOGFLUD car park serving Farnham Leisure Centre is set to close permanently on the May 28 bank holiday to clear the way for construction of the Brightwells regeneration scheme.
An item to be debated at Waverley Borough Council’s annual meeting today (Tuesday) proposes a temporary change in the parking tariff for the nearby Riverside 2 and 3 car parks to bring them in line with Dogflud car park.
These tariffs, a report to the meeting states, will become active “following the closure of Dogflud car park from May 28, to facilitate the progress of the Brightwells scheme and reduce the impact on traffic in Farnham”.
Signage has been placed in Dogflud car park, where there are 227 spaces, informing users about the closure and promoting Riverside 2 and 3.
Two disabled parking spaces will be added to the leisure centre car park and five will be added to South Street car park to mitigate for the loss of seven such spaces at Dogflud.
Businesses, leisure centre users and season ticket holders have also been notified of the changes.
The report to council continues: “There are 395 parking spaces in Riverside 2 and 3, which are currently underused. While the longer stay parking charges are currently lower than the Dogflud car park charges; short stay charges are higher.
“Therefore, an amendment to the charging structure in Riverside 2 and 3 is necessary, with an aim to maintain customer satisfaction and balance the demand for both short and long stay parking for shoppers, workers and visitors.”
It is hoped construction of Brightwells will be completed by spring 2021.
