THE Phoenix Theatre Company, based at The Phoenix Theatre and Arts Centre in Bordon, is set to perform its play Talking Together in schools across the county. The company is working in partnership with the North Hampshire domestic violence forum, which is based at Aldershot Police Station. The play is performed as part of an ongoing project to raise awareness and give advice to young people who may be experiencing the effects of domestic violence at home. Talking Together is written by local writer Susanna Gosney and explores the issues of domestic violence and the effects on the victim, Heather, and her 14-year-old daughter, Lizzie. The play is followed by a talk by representatives from the police who get called to domestic violence incidents and also a representative from a refuge. A counsellor is always on hand for young people to talk to after the project if necessary. The play has been touring successfully in the Rushmoor area for the past two years with excellent response from the young people and is available to tour in other areas. Talking Together is now touring with a new cast. Professional actors Cindy Graves and Joanna Passmore play mother and daughter and the play is directed by Phoenix director, Jane Dawes. Mrs Dawes says Talking Together is a very emotive and powerful play, which has a strong impact on the audience. She said: "The play has been well received with excellent feedback and positive evaluation and we look forward to performing it again this year with a new cast, reaching potential new audiences. "The young people are totally absorbed by watching the play, which shows how drama is an extremely effective medium for conveying key points and issues to an audience. The workshops re-enforce those points".
