WAVERLEY residents can now donate old shoes to be reused or recycled at the borough’s recycling banks.
It comes after Waverley Borough Council teamed up with Soex UK, a company that collects shoes on the council’s behalf and ensures they are put to good use.
Andrew Bolton, Waverley’s portfolio holder for environment, said: “The council does as much as it can to encourage our residents to recycle any items in good condition by donating them to a charity or passing them on to someone else who needs them.
“This is why we are also introducing a new shoe recycling scheme.
“Our partnership with Soex UK Limited not only helps the environment by preventing shoes from being thrown into landfill, but also generates income, as the company pays for the donated shoes.”
Shoes can be donated at any Waverley shoe bank, including in Wey Hill and Beacon Hill car parks.
