PHYLLIS Tuckwell Hospice has recently received a donation from long-term supporters KatCanDo, who gave £3,476 to cover the cost of new cubicle curtains for the wards on the In-Patient Unit (IPU) at the hospice.

KatCanDo is a local charity which raises money to support cancer patients. They organise a calendar of fundraising events throughout the year, which includes barn dances, fashion shows, quiz nights and bridge afternoons.

They use the money raised to help local organisations purchase equipment and provide services not always funded by the NHS, for the benefit of cancer patients in SW Surrey and NE Hampshire, in hospitals, hospices and in the community.

Since it was formed in 2004, KatCanDo has donated more than £19,000 to Phyllis Tuckwell, enabling the charity to buy equipment including two syringe drivers, a pressure-relieving seating system, four new beds and a CoughAssist device.

This recent donation has been used to purchase two sets of washable, fire-resistant curtains for each of the four-bed bays on the hospice’s IPU.

Anna Coassin, individual giving manager at Phyllis Tuckwell, welcomed Kendra Cardy, Paula Buck and Dawn Felgate from KatCanDo when they came to the hospice to see the curtains which their donation had funded.

Kendra said: “It’s wonderful to see the curtains in place and to know that the money we have donated has made a real difference to patients at the hospice.”

Anna said: “We would like to thank Kendra, Dawn and Paula, and all of those who supported KatCanDo in raising this money. We want our in-patient unit to feel like a home-from-home for our patients, and these curtains really add to this welcoming atmosphere, as well as being suitable for a hospice environment.”
