A LIPHOOK woman is warning villagers to be on their guard against aggressive door-to-door salesmen who have been dubbed the ÒNottingham KnockersÓ.
Eneida Nelson of Headley Road said the salesmen were young men selling dusters and other household goods from suitcases in a very aggressive and intimidating manner.
ÒThey have been to my home twice in the last six weeks,Ó she told The Herald Òand they behave with the same pattern of behaviour. It looks to me as if that is how they are being trained.Ó
ÒThey seem to target women on their own and when I said I didnÕt want anything I was subjected to foul-mouthed abuse.
ÒIf I had been elderly I would have been petrified, I was intimidated enough as it was.Ó
She said several neighbours had also complained about the behaviour of the so-called ÒNottingham KnockersÓ including a woman who was nine months pregnant and who was reduced to tears by the aggressive behaviour of the salesmen.
ÒWhat also worries me is that if you say you havenÕt any money, they say they will take a cheque and if elderly people left the door open while they fetched a chequebook, I am concerned that these people would get into their houses,Ó said Mrs Nelson.
She said the first visit was frightening enough, but a salesman returned on Friday at dusk, which was even more intimidating.
She said she was one of several villagers from Headley Road and Longmoor Road who complained to the police.
