ROPLEY Dramatic Society will present a double bill on stage this month at the village hall, followed by supper and a quiz.
Taking place over three days from March 17-19, curtain up is at 8pm each evening for a showing of The Wooden Pear, a heart-warming play by Gillian Plowman, followed by The End of the Road, a comedy by Keith Outterside.
The Wooden Pear starts with an attack 10 years ago which changed Madeleine’s life in an instant. On hearing of her assailant Daniel’s release from prison, she asks him to meet her in the park where the incident took place. Madeleine’s compassion enables Daniel to express his deeply buried pain and regret, which enables both to find closure.
It is described as a “gently compelling and uplifting tale of hope and forgiveness”.
By contrast, The End of the Road is a comedy set in a rural farming community. At a meeting of the Lingering Slaughter Dramatics committee, Cherry, an upmarket new member, sets out her exciting (well, it’s exciting for her!) proposal to stage a Shakespearean tragedy. The down-to-earth, long-serving members, Kate and Angela, try to keep a straight face while devising various tactics to resist Cherry’s proposal.
Tickets, priced £10, are available from the box office on 01420 568265 and there is a bar.
