MEMBERS of the Alton and District branch of Arthritis Care enjoyed a double celebration in April, with the cutting of a special cake to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday and the 20th anniversary of the group.

The celebratory cream tea took place at the Alton Maltings Centre, with guest of honour Gwen McGilvray, wife of the branch’s first chairman, the late Terry McGilvray.

Terry recently died, leaving a handsome donation to the Arthritis Care charity, which Gwen presented to current branch president Allan Chick.

The branch was formed in 1996, following a meeting at Orchard House, and now meets on the last Wednesday of each month at the Maltings Centre.
