TWO years after a review into car parking in Liphook was started by Hampshire County Council, double yellow lines have now been painted along Canada Way to stop commuters from parking along the residential road.
In February 2014, Ferris Cowper, the then county councillor for the parish, said residents in Canada Way had “suffered for a long time with inconsiderate parking”.
“The specific problem needs an urgent remedy to bring relief to those living there,” he said at the time before proposing the double yellow lines as a solution.
During the week, as well as weekends, residents have for years been besieged by commuters parking their cars free of charge along the road, blocking access and turning Canada Way into a single-lane for traffic in and out of the development.
The station car park is available for commuters and train users at a charge. However, many drivers still prefer to park their cars for free in Liphook, including Station Road, Portsmouth Road, Newtown Road, Ontario Way and Sainsbury’s car park.
