WARM sunshine, but very light winds, provided a test of concentration for sailors in Frensham Pond's annual Cadet class open meeting.
Cadet dinghies are among the most popular starter boats for competitive sailors, and Frensham has long had one of the UK's strongest fleets.
Thirty crews came to the start line for the first race, including eight visitors. The three-race series was sailed, at times, in almost drifting conditions, and although the breeze picked up during the day, the same boats dominated throughout.
Average age of boat helms was around 14, with some crew as young as eight. But commitment and dedicated coaching showed clearly in the high standards of boat handling and race tactics.
Overall results. 1st, Jonathan Moss and Sophie Dingwell (Fishers Green SC); 2nd, Aaron Cooper and Matthew Cooper - Frensham Pond. 3rd: James Jaffa and Miele Binmore (Royal Torbay YC); 4th, Richard Moss and Max Ingal (Fishers Green SC); 5th, Jamie Crapnell and James Harvie (Frensham Pond); 6th, Jenny Lennon and Alistair Laycock (Frensham Pond).
