A 21-year-old man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, following an accident near Bordon on Friday, which left two passengers in need of hospital treatment. At 11.30pm, the vehicle left the carriageway of the B3004, collided with a tree at the side of the road, and then slid down the embankment, coming to a stop as the car became partly submerged in Mill Chase Pond. The driver managed to get out of the car and call the emergency services, but the two passengers were unable to get out of the car. A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was extremely lucky the driver could manage to get out of the vehicle and call us, as no-one would have seen the car from the road." Firefighters from Grayshott, Alton, and Liphook attended the scene. The three crews worked in knee-deep water to cut the roof from the car and free the two trapped passengers. A girl in the front passenger seat, thought to be 17, suffered a badly broken right leg, and the male passenger in the rear of the car was taken to hospital with spinal injuries. Firefighters left the scene at 1.09am on Saturday. The driver is due to appear in court later this month.
