SIXTEEN people have been named and shamed having been charged during Surrey Police’s crackdown on drink or drug-driving related offences.

The force, jointly with Sussex Police and the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership Drive Smart in Surrey and the independent charity Crimestoppers, started the campaign named Operation Dragonfly at the start of December.

As part of the campaign the force will be naming people charged with drink or drug-driving offences, while officers will be Tweeting about people who have been stopped on suspicion of such offences, giving details such as when and where motorists are pulled over.

As well as those whohave been charged, a further six were arrested such offences and are on bail. In the first week of the campaign 10 people were charged, while a further eight were arrested and released on bail.

Gary Mills, 40, of Broome Close, Headley, was stopped in Tadworth and charged with drink driving, driving while disqualified, taking a motor vehicle without consent and having no insurance. He will appear before Redhill magistrates on December 31.

The force has a dedicated number people to receive details of suspected drink or drug drivers from the public - 65999.
