COMMUTERS heading between East Hampshire and Chichester are facing a lengthy detour because of persistent flooding on roads south of Harting.
But West Sussex County Council insists the B2141 is still passable despite huge swathes of surface water between Chilgrove and Lavant.
Several motorists have called for the road to be temporarily closed because of the severity of groundwater flooding south of the Hooksway junction.
There have been several accidents along the stretch during the last fortnight according to social media users, with one describing the situation as "really hairy".
Many motorists who frequently travel between South Harting and Chichester have decided to avoid the B2141 in favour of the A3 and A27.
