THE LIGHT might be at the end of the tunnel for traffic woes in Bordon, but motorists aren’t out of the woods yet as Oakhanger Road will be the next artery to be impacted.
Diversions and long delays have been a familiar feature of life for drivers in Bordon as the council’s contractors pressed on with the second phase of the town’s £27m relief road.
In April, Hampshire County Council told residents it needed to close Liphook Road while a new junction with the A325 was constructed. The planned closure had to be extended for a month, and is due to be fully lifted on Friday, September 1.
But there is still other work to do and project manager Andrew Terry, of contractors Carillion, said: “As planned, the next phase of works will be to construct the junction that connects Oakhanger Road with the new relief road. To ensure the safety of road users and the workforce, Oakhanger Road will need to be closed.”
The section of Oakhanger Road between Hogmoor Road and Budds Lane will be closed from Monday September 4, for seven weeks, he added.
During the closure there will be no traffic lights at the junction of Firgrove Road at its access to the A325. Diversions will be clearly signposted.
Questions about the work can be raised with Hampshire County Council at [email protected], and anyone who needs to make contact outside normal operational can call Carillion on 0345 1647054.
The relief road is designed to take traffic from the A325, route it around the proposed new town centre and provide access to new developments at Louisburg Barracks. The new road was deemed crucial to the regeneration of Whitehill and Bordon.
Associated works on the A325 will make it more pedestrian friendly and
encourage through traffic to avoid passing through the centre of the town.
Construction of phase two of the relief road started in October 2016. It is due to be completed next summer.
