NOT only is Dylan’s Milk Bar celebrating its second anniversary in Haslemere this year, its owner, – Liphook resident Ben Govier – has also just scooped two Great Taste Awards.

Ben has built a big following for Dylan’s Ice Cream, which he founded seven years ago, and which he makes traditionally at Manor Farm, in Langrish, using the freshest locally sourced ingredients. The company is named after his family’s black labrador.

He impressed the Great Taste judges, who included TV chef and author Valentine Warner, MasterChef judge and restaurant critic Charles Campion and Great British Bake Off winner Frances Quinn, with his blackcurrant ice cream and raspberry sorbet.

“Both our blackcurrant ice cream and raspberry sorbet are fruit flavours, which we make using whole real fruit that is freshly picked, crushed, blended and frozen ready to eat,” he said.

“Most ice-cream makers use bought-in pastes or flavourings, so I am delighted the judges recognised our commitment to freshness and quality.”

The company uses as many local ingredients as possible. Strawberries are from a grower in Bishops Waltham, blackberries are from a smallholding in Guildford, and rhubarb comes from Ben’s mother’s allotment.
