THE East Street debate has continued to attract national attention, with BBC Radio 4's Today programme following on from The Guardian in airing the issues. Opponents of Crest Nicholson's redevelopment scheme, including Farnham Society chairman Max Lyons, have been interviewed, while putting the case for Waverley Council is the portfolio holder, Chris Mansell. The resulting report was expected to be aired this morning (Friday) or, if forced out by other news, tomorrow (Saturday). Reporter Polly Billington explained: "The reason why we were interested in covering it was that we thought it would strike a chord with other people who are trying to protect their towns." She said her report will also deal with the dilemmas for councils, particularly in the South East, which are trying to manage the demands for housing and leisure facilities while pleasing people who want their towns protected. The programme is aired from 6 to 9 am, but late risers will be able to hear the report during the following week through the website http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today">www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/today. Also on the website will be a photo feature relating to the report.
