THOSE who turned up at Waverley Borough Council on Tuesday expecting a good debate on the future of the East Street scheme were left disappointed, as councillors rattled through the latest report at breakneck speed, barely pausing to even answer public questions.

Judging by the meeting agenda, anti-CNS scheme campaigners hoped to pin Waverley down to some decisive answers in the long-running drama.

Some had come armed with searching questions as the council's executive decided whether to press ahead with compulsory purchases of the old cinema and Marlborough Head sites essential to the East Street redevelopment.
