THE much-criticised architectural design of the proposed East Street development is to be discussed by all interested parties on February 14. The development control consultative forum will feature input from invited parties (specifically, the Farnham Society, Farnham Town Council and the South East Design Panel) to set out what they consider to be the main design issues. Beginning with an explanation of the planning process and the policy used to determine an application, a presentation from developers Crest Nicholson will ensue, outlining their proposals for the site. The current planning application that has been lodged with Waverley Borough Council is for "outline consent", which means it mainly deals with the principles of the redevelopment. However, the purpose of the forum process is to enable the early identification of issues that are likely to affect how the council decides any subsequent planning application. It will also allow the developer to address and possibly resolve key issues at a time when the proposals are at a formative stage, so that the final development proposal can better address concerns of stakeholders. The meeting is held in public so members of the public may attend, however, only invited parties are allowed to comment and take part in the discussion. Any member of the public wishing to comment on anything said at the forum can write to John Anderson, Waverley Borough Council, The Burys, Godalming, GU7 1HR and their comments will be passed onto the developer. The forum will be held in the Barley Room, Farnham Maltings, from 6 pm to 8 pm on February 14.
