COMMUNITY groups and individuals fighting the compulsory purchase of land for the East Street development found they were the only opposition present, as the public inquiry into the compulsory purchase order got under way on Tuesday.

In a surprise move, Marlborough Head owners Greene King are not appearing at the inquiry.

The company is, however, maintaining its objection to Waverley Council acquiring the pub site and has submitted written evidence.
