CREST Nicholson Sainsbury's have won the extension of their planning consent for the East Street development, now renamed Brightwells, despite staunch opposition from Farnham town councillors.

The extra term agreed last Wednesday by Waverley Council's joint planning committee will be the default period of three years, not the five years requested by the developer and backed by Waverley Council officers.

But changes to the conditions attached to the permission have been seen by objectors and Farnham councillors as opening the way for a phased development taking up to six-and-a-half years to construct.
