FOR the second year running the Edgeborough under 11 girls’ hockey team are bronze medalists in the National IAPS Hockey Championships which were held at Repton School, Derbyshire.

The team competed against the strongest sides from around the country and approached the tournament with the same attitude and determination as they had done at regionals, where they scored 28 goals and conceded only two.

Throughout the day, the level of skill and game sense displayed by the whole team was regularly complimented and despite dominating much of the play in their semi-final against Kent College, Edgeborough were beaten three to zero.

Although it was not going to be gold, the girls were eager to earn themselves a medal. After a closely fought draw against Red Maids in the third and forth place play off, it was decided that both teams deserved bronze medals.

Vicky Scrutton, head of girls’ games, said: “Every one at the school is extremely proud of the girls’ achievement. They demonstrated a superb level of skill on the day that was matched by very few teams. Every one in the team contributed to this success, showing excellent focus and maturity for this age.

“To achieve the bronze two years in a row is remarkable.”
