IT was ‘all systems go’ at Frensham Heights on the morning of A-level results as students received their grades.

By 8.30am, even as staff were still arriving, 96 per cent had secured their university places and were already starting to focus on the important next step in their education.

Yet again, students are leaving Frensham to start a wide range of courses – from neuroscience to music and fashion management to astro-physics.

“Every year I am surprised by how diverse our students’ interests are. What is equally important is to see how these students have developed into confident, ambitious and frankly lovely young men and women,” said Frensham’s headmaster Andrew Fisher.

“Some have been at Frensham for most or all of their school lives while others joined the school in the sixth form but they all have that self-respect and self-belief that is so ingrained in life at Frensham.”

Overall, Frensham’s results showed a six per cent increase on 2016 in students achieving A* to A grades.

Once again, mathematics saw 70 per cent of students gaining A* to A, while 3D design also produced strong results, with 75 per cent achieving A* to A.

Best overall results came in the extended project, where all students achieved an A* or A grade.

Mr Fisher concluded: “These are important results for Frensham. My focus for the school’s development over the next few years is to introduce, encourage and enable independent learning.

“This is at the heart of the extended project but I want even our youngest students to be enthusiastic about researching around what most interests them, capable of sharing this through confident and engaging presentation and empowered to use these essential life skills to stand out in what is certain to be the challenging and rapidly changing future that will impact on all of our lives.”
