CHILDREN at Potters Gate School enjoyed a literary treat last week, as they celebrated a belated World Book Day.

Staff and pupils dressed up as their favourite book characters and brought in the corresponding book to show and read.

The whole school took part in various reading activities throughout the day and watched an animation, 'Partly Cloudy', before writing their own email, story or poem based on what they’d watched.

Year six pupils also enjoyed a visit from Lisa Thompson, author of Goldfish Boy which the class have just finished reading.

Lisa spoke about what inspires her writing and the children asked lots of questions - they even got their own copies of her second novel, The Light Jar, signed with individual messages.

Louise Daly, year six teacher and organiser of the visit, said: "It was a complete joy to have Lisa visit the school.

"For the children to see the author of a book they have just read and to hear about her life and her writing was just so inspirational to them and brought the whole book to life."
