THE Abbey School in Farnham is very proud following the release of last week’s GCSE results and are pleased to announce that the maths results were the best ever with four students attaining a grade C and two students achieving an E.
The vast majority of The Abbey’s students arrive at the school working four to six years behind national expectations and focus on a much more holistic education, where students make significant progress emotionally, socially and in their independence.
However, the school also has high academic expectations and students take GCSEs in maths and science, which has been helped by new specialist maths teacher, Angela Baverstock, who worked hard to support the students during this stressful time.
Pupils did particularly well in science with three Ds, two Es and one F, due to the high standards of the school’s science teacher, Charlotte Purkiss.

“We are looking at expanding our suite of GCSEs next year, for those students who can attain them with the opportunity to take English and art.
“We will continue to provide a holistic education though with equal emphasis on academic, social and therapeutic and enrichment and life skills targets, and enable students of all abilities to realise their full potential.”
