AN animator from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) in Farnham has won Best Newcomer at the highly regarded Oska Bright Short Film Festival.

Third-year student Lissea Jordan, 21, scooped the award for her film ‘A Skeleton’s Best Friend’, which tells a story of a companionship between a skeleton and Dawn, a dog-like creature it finds one day.

Now in its seventh year and held at Brighton’s Corn Exchange, the Oska Bright Short Film Festival is the UK’s only festival run for and by people with learning difficulties.

“It feels like my work has been acknowledged and recognised as worthwhile and is able to communicate with an audience in the way I intended,” said Lissea.

“I hope this award will help me to build my skill and confidence, so I can be even more successful on my next project.”

Animation at UCA Farnham has a long history for producing award winners, with no fewer than three future Oscar winners having graduated from the course.
