PUPILS at The Ridgeway School can take a ride on a new ‘magic carpet’ thanks to the generosity of all those who purchased The Hedgehogs’ Love Farnham Calendar 2020.

The calendar supported by Farnham Town Council, the Herald and local businesses is now in its sixth year and was sold by Hedgehogs’ members over the last quarter of 2019.

The Hedgehogs’ ensuing £7,000 donation enabled the purchase of a new ‘magic carpet’ for the school, which caters for children between the ages of two and 19 years with severe and/or profound multiple learning difficulties.

The ‘magic carpet’ is an interactive floor system which creates a touch sensitive floor where pupils can do everything from making water ripples to brushing leaves out the way.

While the school has had a previous and older ‘magic carpet’ the new system is larger, with more applications for them to use.

Bob Hockey, of the Hedgehogs, said: “When we received the request for support from the school the Hedgehog members unanimously approved the donation from the proceeds generated by The Love Farnham 2020 sales.

“The Ridgeway School has been supported over the years by the Hedgehogs and we are delighted to help the new ‘magic carpet’ to fly for pupils.”

Darryl Morgan, headteacher, said: “Without the support of the Hedgehogs we would have had to wait a considerable period before we had the funds to purchase the ‘magic carpet’.

“The system is such an important piece of technology that enhances our pupils’ education through interactive programmes – a big thank you to the Hedgehogs for their continuing support.”
