MORE than 150 members of Bourne and Boundstone District Guiding enjoyed a special STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) day at More House School.
With a mobile planetarium and age-relevant STEM challenges from the new Girlguiding programme for the girls aged five to 15, the day was a great success topped off with presentations from the inspirational Dr Suzie Imber, winner of BBC Two’s Astronauts: Do You Have What it Takes?
Dr Imber shared her experiences of taking part in the 44 various tests and challenges, fighting off competition from 11 other exceptional candidates, including scientists, engineers and pilots.
The STEM challenges kept everyone busy throughout the day and saw the girls completing super structures, coding with binary beads, making string art and sock monsters; they also held a great paper plane race as well as an egg drop competition.
Bourne and Boundstone District are very grateful to More House School for enabling the event to take place and for the use of the school’s facilities for the day as well as the many adult volunteers who helped the day to run so smoothly.
