NORTHCHAPEL School enjoyed a week celebrating harvest time.

All the pupils took part in a bread making workshop with Margaret Barlow from Imbhams Farm, in Haslemere.

Margaret helped the children to mill some grain and then every class baked a loaf of bread.

Margaret also brought a special visitor to meet the youngest children in Oak class – her newest chicken enjoyed a day in the classroom, helping the children with their learning and inspiring their work on the story of the Little Red Hen.

She also worked with the oldest children in Beech Class to create the Harvest Loaf.

On Friday, the whole school community, along with family and friends, joined together for the harvest celebration.

They were joined by Rich Lush, from Chichester Foodbank, who gave a talk about how the local foodbank supports families when they are going through tricky times.

Children brought donations of tins and packets in beautifully decorated harvest boxes, which Rich then took back to the foodbank.

Just down the road, Shottermill Infant School celebrated Harvest Festival by supporting two very worthwhile charities at home and abroad.

The generous community sent in food and toiletries for the town’s food bank, a charity the children are always very keen to support.

Parents also sent in donations to support a new charity – Toilet Twinning.

The childrenn learned about its vital work providing safe sanitary toilets for a family or community abroad.

One shocking fact pupils learned during the day was 2.3 billion people around the world don’t have a safe place to go to the toilet.
