‘I NEED help’, a helpline and email service for teenagers in Surrey, is ready to offer support to students on both A-level and GCSE results day.

Sixth form students will pick up their results today (Thursday), followed by GCSE students a week later on Thursday, August 25, and as helpline manager Tracy Pizzanelli says: “This is a stressful time for students, teachers and parents.”

“There are lots of emotions associated with getting exam results and often students can feel overwhelmed with distress, or relief,” she continued.

“Students who are disappointed with their results now face the prospect of an uncertain future and while their schools and colleges can help them with practical advice and discuss options with them, ‘I need help’ can offer emotional support which many students can benefit from.

“Even those students who get the results they need to go on to university or further education, can feel concerned and nervous at the prospect of leaving home, making new friends and having to become more independent.

“Many students find the transition easy and are excited at the prospect, but this can make those who aren’t feeling this way feel isolated and lonely as they don’t feel they can express their feelings to their friends or family.”

‘I need help’ is a charity supported by Surrey County Council, local and borough district councils, as well as fundraising and donations. Its helpline is available to call for free from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0800 141 2055 or to email at [email protected].
