YEAR 11 students across Farnham and its surrounding area gathered to celebrate their GCSE results last Thursday, but for the first time most exams were graded from 9 to 1 as opposed to the traditional marking system.
GCSE pass rates across the nation rose this year, with only 732 pupils scoring grade 9s in all subjects.
Record-breaking results were achieved at Weydon School this year, with 88 per cent of students receiving grade four or above (equivalent to grades C to A*) in English and mathematics.
An impressive 44 per cent of students managed to achieve top results of 9 to 7 (A* to A) and at least one grade 9 was attained by 35 students.
Pupils at Farnham Heath End School also had reason to celebrate as 63 per cent achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and maths, of which 44 per cent were at grade 5 or above.
An impressive 20 students successfully achieved seven or more GCSEs at grades 9 to 7.
At All Hallows Catholic School, an outstanding 81.47 per cent of year 11 students gained the equivalent to five A* to C grades, with 33 per cent achieving the top 9 to 7 grades.
One of the school’s top performers even received 10, 9 grades and an A* in their examination papers.
