STUDENTS at Farnham Sixth-Form College were given the opportunity to put questions to MP Jeremy Hunt ahead of the EU referendum.
Mr Hunt met with a group of 80 students studying a range of A-Level courses including government and politics, business and law on April 29.
The students have been debating the issues surrounding Britain’s position in the EU and, with many of them eligible to vote for the first time on June 23, wanted to find out more about the ‘in or out’ debate.
Mr Hunt spoke briefly about the context of the referendum before opening up the floor to questions.
The students demonstrated an impressive knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding the debate and asked a series of thought-provoking and engaging questions.
Joe Strickland, studying A-levels in government and politics, history, sociology and English, said: “Being provided with the opportunity to talk to an active member of the cabinet was a real coup for us as students.
“Whether or not we all agreed with his or the government’s stance was actually moot, as what we learned from meeting him outweighed political viewpoints.
“He was very open and friendly and coped well with the thorough ‘grilling’ we gave him! Meeting Mr Hunt has inspired me to meet more politicians from across the political spectrum”.
Dr Jason Jones, director of Farnham Sixth Form College, added: “We are very grateful to Mr Hunt for devoting some of his time to come and talk to our students and I am very proud of the confident and articulate way in which they engaged in well-informed questioning and debate.”
