ALTON School has been inspiring pupils to engage with science and technology as part of its STEM Week celebrations.

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering and maths and, as head of science Dr Louise Clayton, explained: “Clearly from a curriculum point of view STEM covers a range of subjects. In STEM Week we focus on how these are so deeply inter-connected and cut across so many subjects in school yet come together in the wider world.

“ Our main focus this week has been on plastics and recycling, but we kicked of our week with a visit from Dallas Campbell.”

Dallas Campbell is a British television presenter best known as a presenter on The Gadget Show and the BBC One science series Bang Goes the Theory.

He brought in Tim Peake’s astronaut suit and explained the many engineering solutions (including elastic bands and scart leads) that are part of the design and build of an astronaut’s suit.
