HASLEMERE Mayor Malcolm Carter not only opened Shottermill Junior School’s new playground but also tried out some of the new equipment on offer.

Headteacher Kate Barnes said: “We were delighted Mr Carter could open our new fitness and outdoor equipment, inlcuding new line markings.

“The school recently identified that improvements were needed to its outside play spaces and the children have led the project.

“They chose the equipment they would like and suggested ideas for improving pupils’ activity and physical fitness.

“The project has been made possible through fundraising and £10,000 of national lottery funding, which the school business and development manager, Emma Crabb, has been central in organising.

“We are delighted with our new outside spaces and we know the parents and Mr Carter enjoyed testing out the new equipment with the school sports leaders.”
