MOVES by Waverley Borough Council to relocate six community organisations based at the Youth Campus in Wey Hill continue with the relocation of long-term user the Montessori nursery school.
Weyhill Montessori has moved to Waverley-owned High Lane community centre, which has been revamped by the borough council.
In March, Waverley revealed plans were in the pipeline for Woolmer Hill sports ground pavilion to be extended and revamped with a view to another youth campus user, Haslemere’s Air Training Corps and Army Cadets, moving there.
The youth campus is identified as a ‘strategic site’ for 31 houses in the borough council’s Local Plan, meaning there may no longer be room when it is developed for all the community organisations now based there.
Other leaseholders facing an uncertain future are 1st Haslemere Scouts and District Guides and St John Ambulance.
Weyhill Montessori principal Mandy Hall said: “Our nursery was started with just a handful of children in the scout hut 24 years ago and in that time we have welcomed 617 children.
“Four years ago, the lease renewal on the Scout building came into question with Waverley Borough Council wanting to rehome all the groups on the youth campus in order to use the land for housing development.
“With an uncertain future looming, we began our search for a new home.
“It has taken a while to find somewhere that could offer similar accommodation for 30 children, but with the extensive improvements made by Waverley to High Lane, we now have fantastic new premises and have renovated the garden as an outdoor learning space.”
