MP RANIL Jayawardena is leading the fight to deliver a new secondary school provision in North East Hampshire.

Mr Jayawardena is working to deliver a new school for the region funded by the Department for Education and wants to put parents at the very heart of education in the area, adding that the new school will strive for the highest academic standards and be an inspiring place of learning and scholarship.

While many schools deliver good outcomes for children across the area, unfortunately some schools in north Hampshire are not delivering for the next generation, despite north Hampshire having higher than average earnings, lower unemployment, and longer life expectancy.

An area it particularly struggles in is exam results, with students gaining on average just 5+ A*-C GCSEs including English and maths, which have been repeatedly lower than the England average for state-funded secondary schools.

MP Jayawardena commented: “As someone who was schooled locally myself, I am delighted to be championing the cause of a new school in north Hampshire.

“I know that parents want more choice in our area, not only to drive up standards across all schools, but to provide more academically rigorous routes through education for those pupils who would benefit from it.”

With schools in the area already operating at capacity, hence Robert May’s decision to expand over the next two years, the MP believes it is essential to get new provision to cope with future demand.

Wanting to put parents at the heart of this new school, Mr Jayawardena is encouraging people to contact him with their thoughts, as well as volunteering their time and skills if they wish to be a part of the project.
