PUPILS at the specialist More House School in Frensham are celebrating A-level and the BTEC equivalent triumph, having overcome the barriers posed by the specific learning and language difficulties.

For many, before they joined More House academic success seemed an impossibility. However 97 per cent of the A-level and equivalent BTEC certificates awarded to pupils were passes, with 74 per cent of grades at C or above.

More House headmaster Jonathan Hetherington congratulated his pupils on achieving 37 per cent of certificates awarded at the highest A or A* and distinction or distinction* grades.

He praised the “incredible commitment to study demonstrated by students, and the highly effective teaching and support provided by the specialist teachers”.

Mr Hetherington noted the school’s 100 per cent pass rate for A-level equivalent BTEC courses, and this year’s 85 per cent BTEC grades awarded at merit or higher, equivalent to an A-Level C grade or higher.

All the pupils taking the extended project qualification achieved a B grade or higher.

The results are particularly impressive since 57 per cent of More House’s upper sixth students have a statement of special educational needs, or the newer education, health and care plan, and a majority accepting university degree places to study courses as diverse as biochemistry, politics and international relations, physics, and English literature.

More House School is recognised as a national centre for excellence, providing independent day and boarding education for 470 boys aged eight to 18 with specific learning or language-based difficulties, including dyslexia.
