FARNHAM Heath End School hosted its annual Business Back to School Day recently, attended by business representatives from more than 40 local companies and from the Army and Royal Air Force.

Guests were welcomed by headteacher Nick Phillips who gave a short presentation on the issues facing schools today and the changes to GCSE exams and grades. The day continued with the business representatives conducting individual interviews with every Year 10 student.

The students, who were all smartly dressed for the occasion, had been busy compiling CVs, filling in application forms and writing letters of application for a job of their choice in preparation for the day.

The interviews, which were enjoyed by both students and interviewers, gave students a valuable insight into the job application process as well as detailed written feedback to help them improve their paperwork and interview techniques for the future.

The students received many compliments from the interviewers who were impressed with their attitude and conduct throughout the interviews.

Lucy, a Year 10 student, said: “This day helps us with future college, university and job interviews, as we know what to expect going into them. Overall the day was great, I gained lots of experience and learned a lot about the interviewing process. I now feel confident going into an interview and a lot less nervous than I did at the start of the day.”
