PUPILS at the specialist More House School in Frensham are celebrating GCSE triumph, having overcome the barriers posed by the specific learning and language difficulties.

For many, when they first joined More House academic success seemed an impossibility. However, 90 per cent of the GCSE and equivalent BTEC certificates awarded to More House pupils in this summer’s results were passes, with 69 per cent of grades at C or above.

Forty-seven per cent of grades were awarded at grade B or higher, and 24 per cent were awarded the highest A* and A grades.

More than half of the school’s year 11 students secured five or more GCSE or equivalent passes at grade C and above, including English and maths.

An extraordinary statistic for a school where 53 per cent of its GCSE candidates hold a Statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education, Health and Care plan.

More House School’s headmaster, Jonathan Hetherington, congratulated his pupils and remarked on the “extraordinary effort and determination shown by the students and by the expert teaching and therapy staff that has realised such fantastic results”.

More House School is recognised as a national centre for excellence, providing independent day and boarding education for 470 boys aged eight to 18 with specific learning or language-based difficulties including dyslexia.

The school was graded ‘Outstanding’, the highest possible rating across the board in its Ofsted inspection earlier this year.
