GRAYSWOOD Primary School celebrated a red letter day when it achieved Surrey County Council’s highest rating and helped Sport Relief raise more than £38million for charity projects in the UK and around the world.
Pupils and staff wore red clothes in a sponsored effort to help swell the Sport Relief 2018 coffers. Some classes watched the BBC’s information video in their lessons and discussed the ways the national initiative helps support people globally.
The school has now been successfully expanded to a full primary to meet the need for more places and headteacher Jo Fraser was delighted to announce Surrey County Council had given Grayswood its top rating – ‘Good to Great’.
Grayswood is also busy raising money for its contribution to the town’s 2018 community arts project, Haslemere Hares, and every pupil will be involved in decorating the fibreglass model of a hare the school is sponsoring in aid of the town mayor’s nominated charities.
As well as colouring in the decoration using sharpie pens, pupils are competing in a ‘guess the name of the hare’ to raise more funds and year four teacher Hannah Cole will choose the winning name .
Mrs Fraser said: “The expansion of our school to a full primary has now been completed with our year six class.
“It is only through the support of staff, pupils, parents and the local community we have been able to achieve recognition as a Surrey ‘Good to Great’ school.
“Over the past few years we have been working with the county council school improvement programme to ensure our school is performing well, following our expansion from infant to primary school status.
“We now no longer need the programme support and have been given their highest rating, which is Good to Great.”
