A RECORD number of year six pupils at St Ives School in Haslemere have been awarded scholarships for September and one student gained an academic exhibition.

Most of the high-flyers are joining their sister school, Guildford High School, and the others are going to Prior’s Field School, Godalming, Cranleigh School and Frensham Heights.

St Ives’ headteacher Kay Goldsworthy said: “Being awarded a scholarship to senior school is a great achievement for both the children and St Ives.

“The competition for these awards is extremely high and so it is particularly pleasing that over 50 per cent of our year six pupils have received them.

“It is also excellent news that they have been awarded for a full range of skills and disciplines. Not only is our girls’ academic excellence being rewarded but also their arts, sports, music and drama prowess too.

“This shows the quality of the education our girls receive here and the potential we draw out to help them succeed in their senior education.”

Ian Young, head of Independent Schools at United Learning, said: “I would like to congratulate all those pupils at St Ives who will be taking up scholarships in September.

“That so many have been awarded them is evidence of the excellent education they receive at St Ives, both in terms of the strong, academic focus and the wide-ranging curriculum and co-curricular opportunities that are on offer.”
