Filled with sweet swelling herbs, locally-grown azaleas, a Spring bulb planted by each pupil and, of course, heathers as a constant reminder of Rev Humphreys’ presence in the heart of the school, the Reflection Garden will be beautiful year-round.
All Saints’ headteacher Sara Bedford said: “Heather has a very special place in our hearts; she loved being at All Saints and was never happier than talking with the children and staff. Their personal and spiritual wellbeing was paramount to her.
“Our new Reflection Garden, with its woodland surroundings, will provide our children with the space and inspiration to slow down, think and find peace.”
Tilford’s independent garden centre, Hazelbank Nursery in Tilford Street, donated plants and green-fingered assistance to help the garden flourish, whilst sharing their love and knowledge of plants with the children, keen to protect, improve and enjoy their environment.
Mrs Bedford added: “We know Heather would have loved the community effort, thought and care that has allowed the All Saints’ Reflection Garden to blossom in her name.”
Rev Humphrey, who was made deacon at Worcester Cathedral in 1990 and priested with the first women in 1994, collapsed and died at home in Tilford on Friday, February 23, aged 71.
It came just days after she was involved in a car accident outside Frensham Garden Centre in The Reeds Road on Monday, February 19.
Rev Humphrey arrived in Tilford in January 2014 having served as an Honorary Canon of Worcester Cathedral, and before that as a vicar in the Midlands at the same time as being a deputy headteacher of a church school.
She became an active participant in Tilford village life and had a great affinity for children, leading fortnightly assemblies at All Saints Infant School as well as paying regular visits to the village nursery school.
Rev Humphrey was also an active member of the Tilford Women’s Institute and various other village organisations, an accomplished artist, and is survived by two adult children and one granddaughter.
