FOREIGN secretary Jeremy Hunt joined pupils at St Peter’s before Christmas to present the school its International Award.

The British Council’s International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools which do exceptional work in international education.

As well as a curriculum which has many global links, St Peter’s has partnerships with two schools in France and a school in Ghana.

It also participates in online learning with schools across Europe and was recently praised by Ofsted for “opening a window on the world”.

Mr Hunt, MP for South West Surrey, listened to pupils explaining some of the highlights of their global learning and then answered questions.

He said: “It is so important to be able to learn about people and their lives in different parts of the world. We often find that while we have many differences, we also share a lot in common. The learning you are doing at St Peter’s will help to prepare you for later life.”

Sarah Marshall, St Peter’s international co-ordinator, also attended an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament last month, where education secretary Damian Hinds spoke about raising pupils’ aspirations through giving them exposure to the wider world.

Mrs Marshall said the “special” trip to London and award was “recognition of all the hard work put in by staff at St Peter’s”.

Sir Ciaran Devan, chief executive of The British Council, said: “St Peter’s has brought the world into its classrooms. Pupils’ education is enriched with international activities that helps children develop the skills they need to thrive in a globalised world.”
