A FARNHAM school has retained its ‘good’ rating by Ofsted, with the rich curriculum and the education of the “whole child” being highlighted as particular strengths.
St Peter’s School headteacher Sarah Dunning said: “We are delighted by the report which reflects the way we have developed our curriculum to give pupils exciting and challenging learning opportunities linked to the real world.
“The report confirms our pupils love coming to school and that positive attitudes to learning are underpinned by strong, respectful relationships.
“The inspector also picked up on the pupils’ enthusiasm and confidence and noted everyone in our school community – pupils, staff, governors and parents – feel proud to be part of the St Peter’s team.”
The report reads: “Pupils enjoy many memorable experiences that open an exciting window on the world and help them to develop a growing knowledge of different people, places and ideas.
“The curriculum allows pupils to encounter people, ideas and situations that are very different from their own.
“This helps pupils to develop an understanding of their place in the world and to think about ways that they can make a positive contribution.”
With reference to the broad curriculum, it states: “The curriculum is rich in opportunities for physical education, music and art, both in lessons and in the extensive clubs and out of school activities.
“Pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is well catered for.
“Pupils are caring and thoughtful and always look for opportunities to help others.”
Kate Mapes, chairman of governors at St Peter’s, which is based on Little Green Lane, added: “I would like to congratulate the staff at St Peter’s, who have high expectations for pupils.
“They provide learning experiences which encourage pupils to develop into independent thinkers who reflect on the world around them.
“Every child at St Peter’s is challenged to achieve their best and high standards are attained.
“As the report confirms, St Peter’s is an inclusive school where pupils thrive and place a high value on learning.
“We look forward to welcoming many more children from Farnham and the surrounding areas.”
